Brewers control their own playoff destiny
- Updated: August 23, 2017
Sitting 2.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central standings on Aug. 22, the Milwaukee Brewers control their own destiny, as they fight for a playoff spot.
Touting a 66-61 record, the Brewers face the Cubs seven times in September, including a four-game series at home starting on Sept. 21. The Brewers have struggled against the Cubs this season, posting a 5-7 record.
After storming out to a 50-41 mark in the first half of the season, the Brewers haven’t duplicated that success in the second half, tallying a 15-20 record, while being outscored 159-132.
It won’t be an easy route to the playoffs. Besides facing the Cubs seven more times, 22 of the Brewers final 35 games are against teams above .500.
With the playoffs quickly approaching, numerous teams are fighting for a playoff spot. The Brewers are also in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, but the easiest path to the playoffs is by knocking off the Cubs and winning the NL Central.
