Brewers need to re-sign Chris Carter
- Updated: October 3, 2016
With the 2016 season coming to a close for the Milwaukee Brewers, it’s time to look ahead to the offseason. The Brewers have numerous decisions to make in regards to their 40-man roster.
One player who’s contract expires at season’s end is slugging first baseman Chris Carter. After signing with the Brewers as a free agent on a one-year, $2.5 million deal last offseason, Carter exceeded expectations, hitting .222 with 41 home runs and 94 RBIs in 160 games.
Carter led the league with 206 strikeouts, but his high strikeout numbers were expected. He’s still been a valuable member to the franchise on the field and as a leader in the clubhouse.
With no first base prospects on the horizon of making their MLB debuts, the Brewers need to re-sign Carter, especially if they can sign him to another team friendly contract.
Carter brings a potent bat to the middle of the batting order and plays adequate defense. But his veteran leadership is what makes him such a valuable player to the rebuilding Brewers and why it’s crucial they re-sign him this offseason to a multi-year contract.
Carter has two more years of arbitration remaining and although he figures to land a raise, he still looks to be a good fit for the Brewers in the years to come.
