Brewers acquire Jacob Faria from the Rays
- Updated: July 31, 2019
Jacob Faria is headed to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Tampa Bay Rays traded the right-handed pitcher to the Brewers for first baseman Jesus Aguilar, according to numerous reports.
Faria, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound right-hander, has pitched exclusively as a reliever for the Rays this season, appearing in seven games. The 26-year-old has a 2.70 ERA with a 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings ratio in 10 innings this season.
He has pitched for the Rays in each of the last three seasons, bouncing back and forth between the minor leagues and major-league club. Faria isn’t arbitration eligible until 2021 and is free-agent eligible in 2024.
Faria throws a fastball, changeup and slider. His average fastball velocity has increased by 3 mph this season to 94.1 mph.
Aguilar was an All-Star for the Brewers last year but hasn’t duplicated that success this season. The power-hitting first baseman is batting .225 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs in 222 at-bats this season. He is under team control through 2023.
