Packers vs. Chiefs: Preview, Prediction
- Updated: October 26, 2019
Before the seasons started, everyone was circling the Green Bay Packers’ Week 8 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The anticipation for the game centered around watching quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes and seeing which one would outduel the other.
Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play and Mahomes is the reigning NFL MVP. But Mahomes is one of six starting players who will be inactive for the Chiefs (5-2) on Sunday night. Left tackle Eric Fisher, left guard Andrew Wylie, defensive lineman Chris Jones, defensive end Frank Clark and cornerback Kendall Fuller also will not play for the Chiefs.
Veteran Matt Moore will start in place of Mahomes. It won’t be an easy test for the backup quarterback, as he goes up against a Packers’ defense that is allowing less than 20 points per game.
The Packers have managed to start the season 6-1 under first-year coach Matt LaFleur. They haven’t necessarily played their best football, but they’ve found ways to win games. Last week’s 42-24 victory over the Oakland Raiders was the closest they’ve had to a complete performance this season.
Rodgers looks rejuvenated under LaFleur. He completed 25 of 31 passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns against the Raiders and will have to exploit a poorest Chiefs’ defense on Sunday for the Packers to win.
With the Chiefs littered with injuries and without the game’s best QB, I’m taking the Packers.
Prediction: Packers 34, Chiefs 28
